Indian schoolchildren tried their hand at assembling spils-maps of India and Russia. An exciting contest was held in one of the educational institutions of Thiruvananthapuram District in Kerala. It was organized for students of Jawahar Public School in the district of Edava by Ilya Bannikov, a representative of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, and Zakhar Bannikov, an activist of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society “Zvezda Spaseniya” (eng. "Star of Salvation").

At the event, Zakhar Bannikov presented to Indian children the concept of studying the geography of their country using spils-maps and shared his experience of successful implementation of the federal educational program "I Know Russia". First, the participants of the meeting put together a map of India, and then joined with interest in working together on a map of the vast and multifaceted Russian Federation which they had already heard a lot about but did not imagine its true size and greatness.

“This challenge is the first, we can say a ‘pilot’, event on the way to organizing further joint championships for the assembly of Russian and Indian spils-maps among Indian youth, and, possibly in the future, the organization of the program ‘I Know India’ in the Republic of India as has already happened in the example with the Republic of Belarus and the program ‘I Know Belarus’,” said Ilya Bannikov.

We would like to remind you that in December last year, with the active assistance of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society represented by Ilya Bannikov, the first Center of the Russian Geographical Society in India was opened in the Indian state of Kerala.

The event was organized by the autonomous non-commercial organization  for the development of humanitarian cooperation "Dialog" with the support of the autonomous non-commercial organization "World Federation of Spils-Maps", the organizer of the Federal educational program "I Know Russia".
