First Winner Of Crystal Compass Award Announced

Voting has ended on the official website of the Crystal Compass National Award. More than 136,000 people took part in it. The winner in the category "Public Recognition" was the project of the Park-Museum of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Siberia in the city of Zheleznogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, implemented by the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

More than 41,000 people voted for this large-scale cultural and historical project. It has been implemented since 2021 and today occupies an area of about 11,000 square meters. The monuments, objects, and exhibits located in the park were designed and created exclusively by students and employees at the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy.

According to the authors of the project, its main goal is to form objective ideas about the regions, ethnos, and culture of the peoples of Siberia, about their history, traditions and features. The streets and squares of the park-museum have already become a venue for mass celebrations and functions.

Since 2021, almost 100,000 people have visited the park-museum. The project continues to develop: it is planned to install scaled-down replicas of attractions from all over Siberia: "Deer Sculpture", "Buchholz Ball", "Globe", "Mother Buryatia", and other objects.

The victory in the ‘Public Recognition’ category is a contribution to the overall result of each contributor, employee, and student of the Academy, their talent and sincere involvement to achieve a common goal," said the head of the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Major General of the Internal Service Ivan Sergeev.

The winners in the remaining 10 categories of the “geographical Oscar” will be determined by the expert council of the award. The names of the winners will be announced at the award ceremony, which will be held in Moscow.

The Crystal Compass National is held under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The winners are chosen among the authors of unique projects aimed at preserving the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of Russia. In 11 years, an expert jury has evaluated 3,720 projects and achievements from 45 countries of the world. In the special category "Public Recognition", where the laureates are determined by Internet voting, more than 2.5 million people expressed their preferences.

Among the laureates of the prize and holders of the coveted crystal statuette of the past years are Fedor Konyukhov and Frederik Paulsen, Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Institute of Glaciology and Ecogeography, Lanzhou University, and the Swiss Polar Institute, KamAZ PJSC and the National Geographic Society, as well as many others.

The winners of the 10th, anniversary, Crystal Compass Award, held with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, were awarded on December 8, 2022 at the Moscow International House of Music. The ceremony became a landmark event in cultural and scientific life, brought together famous scientists, artists, public figures, travelers, people who are not indifferent to the future of our planet. The event was attended by representatives of Russia, France, Serbia and other countries of the world.
